Wake me up before you go go
brand identity

The Ybor City Saturday Market is an outdoor market put on each week in the center of Ybor City that has been running since 2000. They sell hand-crafted delicacies, unique oddities, and local goods but, is most importantly a part of countless Tampa residents’ weekly routine. They wake up, grab some coffee and Cuban toast, and peruse the market every week.
The branding for this market is a bit outdated and since they have opened over 20 years ago, many other markets have popped up competing for attention with the long-standing vendor collection. The market in the heart of Ybor needed some love and care to refresh their tone and spark excitement.
This brand identity is spec work.
This identity began as a reaction to going to the market and absolutely loving the atmosphere and aesthetics. This wasn’t just a vendor cluster that sold specific goods that may or may be considered boutique, this market had something for everyone and even produce goods and delicious food that made this a weekly must-visit.
The bright palette was chosen to connect to the uniqueness of vendors, fresh and tasty food, and the early morning journey Tampa residents would take. A monochromatic look between bold pops and humble accents shows boldness within simplicity. The almost retro type was a callback to their over 20-year history and the even larger history of the city itself.
Eventually, a larger emphasis to Ybor City was focused on for the next round. A trip around the city snapping photos was exactly what needed to be done to hone in on a more urban-inspired palette. Colors lifted directly from the multicolored brick buildings and historic statues formed this color collection. Another focal point was the angles and small spacing details within the mark. Spacing was made more consisted and small angles were made to better reflect the architecture of the city.
